Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

hey, I was reading about all of these forum topics and diets and such. I'm still new to this turtle business (got mine in March) and have been working on the diet thing. it's the hardest part about keeping a turtle for me, is the diet.

so first of all, I'll explain what I do for her diet.

I feed her in a seperate container (she doesn't seem to mind and eats well there).

On the days which I feed her (every other day) I feed her one leaf or half of a leaf (depends on whether its a small or big leaf) of red lettuce. I also sprinkle in some pellets (not a lot). I recently bought some freeze-dried crickets and put maybe 2-3 of those in.
Before I put the lettuce and crickets in, I spray them with a vitamin food spray from Zilla.

Oh, and usually there's a whole cuttlebone floating around but she's not the kind of turtle to go bonkers for them so usually it just ends up floating forever. She does take bites out of it, I've seen her chase it around maybe once.

On the days when I don't feed her I might give her a carrot or something else, but that's when I think of it.

So I'm interested in recipes or anything new to try and open to any advice or opinion. thanks so much!

Check out the sticky on jello shots. I haven't had a chance to try and make 'em but they sound like a great well rounded meal :)

Thats also what I do with my turtles. Sometimes I buy fish for them too, or shrimp. But those I only do about every coupe of months or so.

I stick with the pellets one day, and then lettuce the next. Carrots also about 1-2 times a week. They really love those.

One time I gave my turtle a worm, and they loved it! But I have only done that once.

My turtles don't really seem to like fruit all that much. But out of the three I have, one of them really loves grapes. So I give them to her every once in a while.

Also live plants are great. They just destroy them right when you put them in though and leave you with a huge mess to clean up in the tank and filter!

Look on the Nutrition part of the website because that is mostly where I got all my food ideas for my turtles.
3 turtles,
