on July 26 i went to China town after visiting venice beach......what i foudn very strange is almost every shop had a tiny plastic box with two inch long red-eared-sliders in it!! i absolutely love turtles and I've always wanted one but turtles were always expencive...this plastic box along with the two turtles cost $5 all together, so my dad bought them in pity for the poor things (and because we have a pond just begging for some turtle inhabitants). after bringing them home and doing some serious research, i realized these poor littel baby turtles have bee nillegally sold to me as they are under 4 inches long....salmonella isnt my concern (my family is very hygenic) its the turtles' well ebign im afraid for.....I've offered them several differetn fodo cources as well as turtle fodo from a pet store but they havn't eaten a thing. they swim around, they sit still alot, and they bask in the sun....normal behavior right....but they wont eat.....theyre sittign in a big plastic box with enough water to completely submerge themselves in and plenty of places to escape the water and bask......their water is definetly not to cold....and it can't be to hot if they're basking in the sun right? can anyone tell em if I'm forgetting somthing? i just want these poor little turtles to survive and be healthy and happy so i can move them to the pond (i don't want to stress them to death) my dad says we shoudl wait until they eat to move them....btu what if they never eat?? Help anyone....am i forgetting something?

It will usually take them some time to catch on, my turtle didnt start eating until about the 3 day or sometimes more.
just feed them as usual, just remove the food if they havent ate it in about an hour so it dosent make the water dirty.

hi! what you should attempt to do is buy a can of tuna and soak some pellets in the 'tuna water' that is in the can for about 15 and then take them out to dry. once dried, theyre good to go!
this will give off a larger scent to the turtle and they will realize that it is food. also, you got these for 5 dollars at chinatown?
i would take them to a vet. no disrespect to anyone but chinatown isnt a good place to buy a turtle. especially if they cost 5 dollars. if they dont eat the tuna pellets then definitely take them to a vet

Just give them some time to get used to their new surroundings. It takes time for them to eat some turtles will eat right away and some will take a few days and.
Just give them a variety, pellets, vegetables, and fish.
