I have a roughly two year old male red ear slider. He was a rescue from some one who was not taking care of him properly. We have been taking care of him awhile now, we have in a rubber maid 40 something gallon container and for the most part he seems to be happy and doing good.
The problem is he has started to eat his dry docking the foam store bought kind. We already had to replace one and he did not immediately start to eat the new one. I thought he might be getting the alge that grows on the dock so i started cleaning it with a tooth brush as best I could when I changed his water. That has not stopped him. So I am asking if any one knows of a easy alternative, I have seen the built ones but i have no real means of wood working cause i don't own any tools. i was thinking of getting some light wood that would float and just securing it to something in his tank for the time being.

Oh also i have some floating fake viens from a aquarium he seems to be nipping at the ends of this too, should i remove the veins. I want him to have stuff for him to hide under but if he is just going to eat/tear it up and make him self sick i guess his tank will just have to be bare.

You mean he's eating the foam on a floating dock? How big is and what's the water level? When I used a rubbermaid, I used something like this

I have no clue the brand name but its like over a foot deep and at least 4 feet long its a nice sized one and its not Rubbermaid but its like those containers. That could work but I think my water level would be to high I have to fill it almost full so my filter will run properly cause the container has raised edges for a lid. It could be as easy as finding something to just cover the edges of the dock I could try some kind of tape or water proof binding to wrap it in but i am not sure what I could use that would absolutely not affect the turtle.

They have these in several sizes. you should be able to raise the height with bricks or something like clay pots if necessary.
