Yes, turtles are incredibly intelligent and will play with your mind, you must not give in! >_<
Last night I found mine asleep when I had switched on the light to feed my mice and then the second time I put on the light to get my cellphone, she was chasing the fish! All this time I thought she was sleeping like an angel! She also knows who exactly to beg to- only the weak of will (i.e. my mom), I get the begging because I feed her everyday :P

Are your lights on a timer? If they are, can you have it turn on a bit later?

I'm introducing veggies to his diet. But I thought it's only to give his organism a variety of nutritients. Are you suggesting that a veggie-based diet makes turtles docile? That the more meat they eat, the more aggressive they are?

No, everything's relying on the day/night cycle, 5am and it's perfectly bright here.
But this night I have used a method; I covered the tank with cardboard from every side as to make the turtle lose 'geographical orientation' [haha] because he always rioted in the corner that is closest to my bed and daylight. And it's been successful, the turtle was tranquil because he apparently did not know where he was or where he should concentrate his efforts.

No, I still feed my turtle pellets 3 to 4 times a week. I also keep a piece of green leaf lettuce clipped inside his tank, he eats quite a lot of lettuce, usually at night. Maybe it would make him less frantic if he could kind of "graze" on lettuce at night?

And it's funny how different animals employ different techniques of begging that always are suited best to succeed.

My dogs make big innocent sad eyes and look at me like a poor child.
My turtle just pisses me off with the noise.
Anyways, in both cases I just want to give them food to escape the negative feeling :D
