Hi folks.

I'm new here, been getting a lot of great info off of your site. I recently came into possession of a female Red Eared Slider (atleast 6 years old) named Scooter. She was my mom's pet, and my mom passed away last month. I am building her a new cage and researching everything I can about Scooter... hoping to do a good job and this is giving me something to focus my energy on that is more positive than completely crashing.

Anyways, I have a planted tank at home that I have anacharis in and that stuff grows like crazy! I'm having to trim it and just throw it away... so I was thrilled to hear that Scooter might eat it. I don't know if it would last in her new tank, but I'm wondering if I can just take the trimmings out of my other tank, rinse them, and feed them to Scooter? Is there anything I need to be concerned about in terms of taking plants from one fish tank and feeding them to Scooter?

I threw so much away 2 months ago... sigh... hope there is still enough left in my tank to grow a nice new big supply if you think it's okay to feed.

Thanks,

Tania

As long as no chemicals or fertilizers are used in that other tank, it should be fine. You can also give some away or sell it, there is a market for it :)

haha thats so funny..I just suggested in another thread that you should start a planted tank! A lot of people use a separate tank to grow food for the turtles because the turtles dont leave plants alone long enough to let them grow. And I agree with steve! A lot of local pet stores (not petsmart of course..but small businesses) will buy plants like that off of you and resale them. My pet stores are always out of anarcharis!

Who knew! I don't know of a lot of small pet shops in my area... but maybe there are some who could use it. Let's hope I haven't chopped all of it away by now haha.

The only thing I use in the tank is Seachem Flourish... would that be considered a fertilizer?

I'm not sure... it does seem to have mostly natural elements. If it's safe for fish, it'll have a good chance of being safe with RES. I'd try some without it or maybe give it a through rinse before using.

Hmm, yeah i put it in my tank like once a week or once every couple of weeks just to give the plants a boost. I've had really good results with it... no downsides so far. don't want to make Scooter sick.
