Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hey guys. I have a baby red eared slider that I got this past october. She is actually not technically legal in the usa since i bought her when she was under 4" (I got her off the street in china town and did not know about the legality issues etc)...

She is around ~1-2" long and I have her in a 10 gallon tank and she seems to have been doing pretty well there the last few months.

This is the first time I have ever had a turtle so I wanted to check with you guys to make sure that her eating habits are ok. I originally bought her two types of food from the pet store. One are these green pellets and the other are dried shrimp. I read the FAQ on the main website and it says to feed her the pellets once / day. However... she refuses to eat the pellets at all. However, she loves the dried shrimp and will eat a pinch of it in a matter of seconds.

This is what the bottle I have been feeding her looks like.

Occasionally I give her fresh shrimp and she eats it....

Is this food ok to be giving my turtle daily? it is really all she will eat when she is in the tank.

I have a UVB lamp on the tank also btw for calcium (i put a bone in there a few times and she never eats it).

It's probably OK, but it Baby Reptomin is probably the best, widely available pellet you can get. A few years ago when I picked up my hatchlings, they came with some Wardley's that I think was fake.

The baby reptomin pellets are actually the brand that I got for her and she refuses to eat them. Do you have any suggestions to get her to eat them? Thanks so much.

You should be giving your turtle some normal pellets, instead of just shrimps. They have too much protein in them. Reptomin has about 39% protein, so maybe if you gave your turtle more veggies it would all balance out.... I dunno.

That Wardley's is shrimp? Sorry for the mistake. If she has the appetite to eat shrimp, she'll eat pellets. She's just being picky and wants the treat instead.
