Feeding and Nutrition :: Grass?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Today my parents said that my turtle came out of her pond and was getting grass to eat. I was at work so they washed some lettuce to give her.

Is this normal? Does anyone know about grass? Was her tummy upset like when dogs and cats eat grass? Is she lacking some nutrients or something?

Any kind of aquatic plant that looks like grass around your pond? I don't know about turtles eating actual grass, but if they eat dandelions, it's possible. (Perhaps there was something in the grass your turtle was after?)

I didn't think a RES could eat out of the water.

She was walking out into the yard and getting grass in her mouth and taking it to the pond to eat it in mouthfulls. (like real lawn grass)

My worry about that would be pesticides and fertilizers on the lawn.

How amazingly resourceful those RES's are!

Be careful too that your turt doesn't get into any ants in the yard. They can be deadly.
