Feeding and Nutrition :: Problem with cuttlebone

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Whether or not Ralph is actually eating the cuttlebone or not is another problem. :P
But either way, a whole bunch of tiny chunks of waterlogged cuttlebone start piling up in one corner of his tank. They're not easy to scoop out either, they tend to just get scraped along the edge of the net... Has anyone else had this problem? And how did you deal with it?

I realize that I can just siphon it out, but siphoning + refilling the tank every time I give him a piece of cuttle bone would be a bit of a pain... Any other suggestions?

Ah! Turkey baster! What a brilliant idea! I shall pick one up at the dollar store next time I'm there! (rather than using the food one :?)

That's what I use too. Some pieces get stuck between the PVC and tank wall, so I just wash and rinse my hands really well, reach in and get the pieces, then wash and rinse again. Gandalf will swim and rub his shell repeatedly against my arm, but I know a good bite is not far from his mind, lol.

My turtle doesn't like the cuttlebone so I buy the "water neutralizer" calcium blocks and throw one periodically into the waterfall filter. In about 2 days, it is completely dissolved, with no mess!
