For a hatchling/up to a year, feed once a day. For pellets, this would be an amount equal to the size of his head (not including the neck). What pellets are you using? If they're large/long, break them up into manageable pieces for him. If he likes tuna, you could soak the pellets in the water from the tuna to get the scent of the tuna on them. The krill and tuna are high-protein and are not good as regular foods in the diet (as an occasional treat, OK). Look at the list of foods to feed for other alternatives.
I try to feed my turtles in the morning, because they then have the day to digest the food(when they bask) and to exercise off calories.
