my turtle is head-shy. :s he doesn't like movement around his head or it goes right back in his shell.

I have a problem with my turtle eating like the Cookie Monster. Which means that even if I hand feed the pellets, he smacks them around in his mouth and the calcium *poofs* out around his head in the water. We're still working on methods to avoid this.

When you all dust your pellets, do you do it once a week? More often? Less often?

I wonder why no one has made a shrimp-flavored chewable vitamin for turtles yet.

ETA: Thanks for the answer BullDog. Good to know I can err on the side of too much.

That would be cool if they made a food that had calcium in it soo you wouldn't have to worry about this.

Yeah, if you can't overfeed calcium, I wonder why they DON'T go ahead and fortify the pellets more than they do.

Why don't you try and make some sort of calcium, shrimp block using the jello recipe? That way the calcium is in the jello and it tastes good.

Moisten the pellets first. You can either handfeed them to your turtle or, if you want to have a little supply on hand, you can put some powder in a baggie, add the pellets, shake the bag to coat them, and take the pellets out and let them dry so that the power adheres to the pellets (a little will be absorbed into the pellet).
