HOLY CRAP. Seriously? I thought since they were selling it for turtles that would be taken care of. Maybe that's why Napoleon won't touch it...

The first day I asked about this stuff, I was told by many people that the hard stuff was removed from the Turtle Bone. My turtles wouldn't eat it and it was very hard on one side so I went ahead and broke it, which was tough, and it doesn't say to do that, but my turtles tried eating it after that so I think that the removal of one side is neccacary.

Yeah, I spent a while this morning chipping it off. I can't believe they leave it on there and don't even tell you to get rid of it! Napoleon still turned his nose up at it but I guess we'll see what happens.

Initially, there were mixed reports of the hard backing. Over time, more and more people say the hard backing is there. I don't remember the packaging specifically pointing out that it is there or not there, but they seem to have a tendency to just repackage and resell products.

Napoleon seems to have 'discovered' the cuttlebone today! He's never shown any interest in it before, but I came home from work today to find bits of it all over the tank. I'm so glad you guys told me about the backing, I never would have known.

Hmmmm N4784N R4613, But what would that do? Wouldn't it clog up the gills of my ornamental koi and goldfish?? Wouldn't it just filter out?? My girls love their cuttle bones!

Well, instead of just throwing all of that "powdered" cuttle bone away, I just mix it in with my turtle's pellets. That way they not only get the cuttle bone, but they get it with there pellets too.

P.S. You feed your ornamental koi and goldfish turtle pellets?

LOL N4784N R4613! No. I feed everyone in the pond floating catfish pellets. Also a handful of catfood two or three times a week. As a treat for the turtles mostly. There is a ton of pond weed and a gazillion guppies and swordtails for them to snack on. I also feed different veggies from the supermarket two or three times a week. They LOVE zuccini and turnip greens. They really like iceburg lettuce even tho it has no nutritional value. So I only feed that maybe once a month, or less. That too, is only a treat. Like a bowl of ice cream for us!! LOL (The plecostomi like the veggies too!)
