Feeding and Nutrition :: Feed once or twice a day?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Fri Aug 24, 2007 7:33 pm   Feed once or twice a day?

I read the website and I read many of the topics on nutrition here on the forum, but I can't seem to find the answer to the question of how many times per day to feed a turtle. Mine is only 13 weeks old, and I have been feeding it pellets the size of it's head twice a day. Is this too much?

Maria

Thanks! Does it matter at what time of day? Is morning the best time?

Usually people feed their turtles in the morning or the afternoon.

When your turtle gets bigger you can feed them every second day.

Believe it or not, I'm actually afraid to feed it veggies. I think it's because I have never taken care of a turtle and I'm afraid of making it ill or upsetting it's environment. It's also only 1.75" so I'm not sure how much I should offer or how small the pieces should be. And the suggested list of veggies is so vast I'm not sure what to start with. Any advice?

Start with romain lettuce, dandilion leaves, carrot. There are many.
Lettuce should be the size of his shell

There are lots of veggies that are more healthy than romaine. Try Red leaf lettuce, green leaf, kale, and dandelion leaves.

Yup thats true

Also remember to create variety in veggies
Dont feed him the same veggie all the time

Introduce him to new veggies

Itll also balance out the nutrients comming from the different veggies

Feed as much as would fit into the head empty once a day. You can feed twice a day, just break up the head-sized amount and feed half at a time.

It would be easier for your baby to eat if you used a carrot peeler to make some very thin peels (it would also look more like a worm, which might interest him).
