Feeding and Nutrition :: salmonella?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hi. I'm new to this site, and I was suprised that the nutrition section suggests greens and meat. Ever since I got my turtle I was told not to feed them any greens or meat because it can cause salmonella disease. Is this just a myth, or something like that? If you could give me some information about this that would be great. Thank you!

Do not feed raw chicken, as it can give your turtle salmonella. Cooked meat, or safe breeded insects.

A question by the way, if he doesn't eat greens or meat then what does he eat??

Meat really isn't a good thing to be feeding to your turtle, it's got way more protein than they need, and too much fat. A bit of boiled chicken would be ok every once in a while as a treat, but it's not necessary. Greens (the right ones, look at the sticky) are an important part of your turtle's diet, you should start introducing them ASAP.

She also eats small crickets sometimes when I get them for my dragon, is this not good for her?

They're fine, just not too much of them, they should be more of a treat. Pellets are good stuff, an important staple, but they doo need to be supplemented with plenty of veggies.

Yes! I was suprised by the "feed it as many as you can fit in it's head". The label says feed as many as your turtle will eat in ten minutes, and my turtle could eat a dinosaur by then.

If the site wasn't clear enough, please tell me what page it was and I'll see if I can clarify the writing.
