Today was Donatello's first time since bringing him home eating live food. At first he was too slow so he sat back and watched them for about an hour and then chased after them. I underestimated him.. was worried they were too quick for'em. he ate 2 plus 4 pellets. is that enough or too much?

What else is he eating? Feeder fish are treats and should be kept to a strict minimum.

mostly pellets but other than that all i have is carrots and crickets right now. but i made a post earlier in the week saying this..

"When i bought Donatello (my RES) i was told by a PetCo associate to feed him mainly pellets (8-10 a day) and crickets, minnows etc. as treats once or twice a week. Doing research on the internet i've read pellets should be only 25% of his diet the other 75% crickets, minnows etc. What is the correct way to feed my RES?"

So that above is actually wrong?

There isn't an absolute formula to feeding, tank size, filtration, etc. Most of it depends on what you determine is best for your turtle... this site will guide you and people here share their opinions and experiences. It might or might not work for you.

This is my section on feeding pellets: http://www.redearslider.com/pellets.html

But do check other sections of the site as well as the feeding list sticky here viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11684
