That's a tough one. I think for a turtle tank it would be a good match since it's recommended to have 3 times the filtration capacity for a turtle tank. Also if you go with the XP2, you'd only be saving $15. I'd say go for the XP3.

I don't think the XP3 on a 55-gallon is overkill. I've used one on a 40-gallon stock tank.
