Thank you Steve for posting my photo's. As you can see I also do not use the cover lid, it made additional noise.

Yes, I could tape it or try to modify it in some way. I just think this is something that the manufacture should have done it providing a good product.

I make these postings/comments so that someone else is an informed consumer. I was rather upset when I got home with this filter and I could not just hook it up to my tank.

I'm sorry, I still don't understand why this had to be done; unless your tank is somehow different from a regular tank, the filter sits on the tank just fine. The lid can make a slight vibrating noise, mine has occasionally. Just tapping on the lid stopped it.
