I am moving my turtles into a bigger tank, 75 gal., and need a new filter and heater. Currently, I have a submersible 100W, Tetra Fauna Heater. Do I need to upgrade my heater? If so, which Wattage do you suggest? I am also looking into a new canister filter, XP3, XP4, or Fluval. I am looking to purchase from BigAls online store. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Nolan

I usually say that 5 watts per gallon is good, since I love in really cold Wisconsin. So that comes out to 375 watts, everyone on this site recommends the Stealth heater because it can't shatter (made out of plastic), accurately heats, and has good safety features. The biggest size it comes in is 250 watt, depending on your climate you may need 1 or 2.

Personally, I recommend the XP3 or XP4. I have two 5 inch turtles in a 110 gallon take with 1 XP3 and the water stays clear. Depending on how often you want to clean the tank you can go with the XP3 or really overkill it with the XP4. Fluval, I'm not too familiar with it, so maybe someone else can speak up. I think marisa or another member said that eheim canister filters are good, but you'll see that they're pretty expensive.

Hope this helps Nolan!

The nice thing about heaters is that you can get a very good one and it won't cost too much. I agree with RESowner... an XP3 will do well in a 75 gallon but if you have 2 turtles then I would consider the XP4 for that tank.
