Ok i did up a new above tank basking area for cooter, problem is that her heat light doesn;t put out enough heat to realy warm up the area.... I have anouther bulb...that i know would definately heat it up.. But I wonder extacly how much.

this bulb is 250watts (120 volts) its a red heat bulb. the distance from the platform to the bulb would probly be alill over a foot roughly. I could slide the lamp back an angel it. But I am still a bit worried about how much heat this could realy put out.

You could put a regular glass thermometer under the lamp and leave it there for about 20 minutes and see what the temperature is after that. If it's around 90 degrees then you should be good. I have a feeling that 250 watts is really going to cook though. :o I think you'd be safer with something like a 75w or 100w.

right now i got a 150 watt in there an I dun realy think that its doin the job. I could be wrong though cuz cooter loves to bask under it I'll pull on of my thermomiters out in alil while an pop it under the 150 an check it out.

I got the 250 cuz back when i had my Iguana that was nearly 7.5 feet he had his own room, an the bulbw as use din teh far corner to help keep the temps up an humidity to.
