So I've seen some people saying that clamp lamps sold in pet stores are the same thing sold at hardware stores. Is that true? There's no difference? Would it be better to buy one at a pet store or at a hardware store?

Also, for a heat bulb, is a regular house bulb ok? What wattage is best?

That's quite a price difference just for the "reptile" label then. For both clamp lamps and heat bulbs.

I have some clamp lamps that I've purchased from on-line reptile sites, some from petstores and some from Lowes and Home Depot. All work well, and for lights that require a higher wattage, I've preferred the ones from the latter two places.

An incandescent lightbulb works fine as a heat source. Use a wattage that will get the basking area temp in the 88 - 90F range.

 you dont just need the lamp for heat, you also need it for uvb output and uva, with which a regular house bulb wont have.

I'm using a house bulb for heat and a UVB bulb for UVB

Cosmin, the UVB and heat lamps should be on for about 12 hours a day. Try to imitate the sunlight outside. The distance depends on your UVB lamp, but usually about 12inches. The heat lamp depends on how hot your basking area gets. Put it closer if you want it hotter or further away if you want it cooler.

By the way, I understand your Romanian I just can't really write it.
