Anyone have problems with this model making noise? Mine's making a sort of rattling/bubbling noise in the top part of the filter. Apparently they are dead silent so I'm not sure if this is normal or what. Any thoughts are appreciated. :)

Oh, and I bought mine used, if that makes a difference.

It's possible that there is a build-up of air. Turn off the filter and wait a couple of minutes. If the water is aerated too much or if the fittings are not snug, air could be leaking in.

Also make sure your impeller is clean. If its gunked up or has some debris on it that can also cause the rattling. Also clean out the hole where the impeller sits in. The impeller is upside down at the top of the XP3 exactly where you sourced the noise.

I'll take a look at it the next time I do a filter cleaning then. :)
And I'll also try unplugging the filter for a bit.

Thanks!

I was having the same problem until i cleaned out my impeller chamber and my hoses! The difference in sound is incredible!

I had a similar problem with an XP1. On youtube I came across the suggestion that this can be the result of the filter not being far enough below the tank. The manufacturer apparently specifies that 24" below the tank is the minimum for proper functioning of the filter. sure enough, when I lowered mine to almost 24" below the tank, the problem went away, though it did take about an hour.

It makes noise when it's clogged. Either the sponges, hoses etc. Otherwise it's super silent.
