i am unsure of what heater to get now.
My turtle broke her last one and sent her water boiling.
I really, really want to avoid this happening again.

Does anyone know of a heater for a 55 thats arounf the $40 mark and is as un-shatter-able as the stealth pros?

Ebo Jager heaters are great and you'll need a 200 watt heater (3-5 watts per gallon). If the air temp around your house is stable, get a lower wattage heater.

It's not, the air is very cold most of the time. So would you say a 200 watt then? and thanks for the reply!

Honestly, get the largest one (physically) that will fit in your tank. The heater can be too small and not get the job done. If the heater is too large, it will still shut off at the desired temp but not run as long.

The 200, 250, and 300 watt models are all the same price. $32.99

The heater's have an internal thermostat. You set it to 76 or whatever temperature works for you and it stops when the water reaches 76. A 200 watt heater uses 200 watts of power, a 300 watt heater uses 300 watts and is 33% hotter when it's running. The higher watt heater will not explode. You have to go to Marineland and get a stealth pro if you want the exploding feature *snicker*. The higher watt heater and the lower watt heater will both shut off when the water temperature gets to the thermostat setting. The 300 watt heater will get the water heated quicker, and run for less time but will use more power when it's running. As long as whatever heater you choose is appropriately submerged, it won't explode. If you can physically fit the larger heater, they are the same price, but the larger heater is a bit more useful if you ever decide to upgrade your tank size.

Kay, i ended up getting the 300 watt Ebo Jager.
I love it, the guy at the store said in his 20 years of running the shop (its an all fish shop) that hes seen this kind only ever break under 5 times.
And it should last my next few upgrades, like you guys said.

thank you ^^
