Equipment Review and Discussion :: Good Heater?

Various accessories and equipment discussed here.

I used to have the stealth heater until it broke, then I bought this other fluval but it exploded because you can't take it out of the water and put it back in because it's glass. I don't want another heater like that that you can't take out of the water.

What are some good heaters that I can get for my turtles?
3 turtles,
3 cats,
& fish.

The best bang for the buck is the Eheim Jager heaters. Edit > probably not the best phrase to use after your heater exploding.

FYI> You can't take any heater out of the water while it's hot.

Man I want to get a heater for mine cause winter is coming up but all this talk about exploding heaters really has me worried. I'm always afraid one of my lamps might some how fall into the water and zap me and my turtles. Worst case it kills my shelled buddies. :(

I share similar concerns. Get an Ebo Jager heater, they are super reliable. If you are worried about explosions, you can get titanium heaters, or ones that attach to the filter. Make sure you get a solid clamp lamp for you setup. I use thick glass halogen lamps for their basking areas. Some people use a guard (eggcrate, grill, etc) over their tank... might be metal or plastic. You have lots of options.

Oh I have two clamp lamps. I love them. For now they do a great job heating the basking area. I just get worried when winter rolls around about the water temps. I will definitely have to start looking soon cause it does get chilly down here in FL.

The best thing about the Ebo Jager is that it doesn't cost much more than most other heaters.

Yeah I think I saw Veipa talking about the jager in a different thread. When I do get one it will probably be a jager but I still don't think I'm gonna get over the fear of one of these things blowing up. Lol I still get antsy when I take the screen off the top of my tank and the clamp lamps are just sitting over the water.

I DO NOT SUGGEST YOU TRY THIS... but maybe it will put some of your fears to rest...

It does show the jager heaters are shatterproof and built really really well.

Hello,

I hope you don't mind me resurrecting an old topic. I am looking for a heater for my tank and the Jagers seem to be the most universally liked. Do you need any additional guards or shielding around the heater to prevent the turtle from being burned or from chewing on it?

Thanks!
Mike

Hi MIke, it should be fine as is. Some people have very aggressive RES that will chew on the cord, but aside from that these are very tough heaters.
