That's cool.

My vet recommended that I put a solution of low-dose salt (non-iodized) in the tank. 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons of water. She said it would kill the algae and not harm the turtle. She definitely recommends a bigger filter. I'll give it a shot and let you know how it turns out. ;)

the low dose salt solution will also raise the PH a little (not a big deal) and increase the number of algae strains your tank can host. Cyano loves the slightest amount of salt. Excellent vet. I'd look in the yellow pages for a new one.

^^She's the only reptile vet within a 100 square miles. I think I'll stick with her.

She knows my setup and has given little Sheldon a physical. I don't think she'd tell me something that would be bad for him.

Anyway, if I cut the sunlight out and get a bigger filter, it'll probably take care of itself.

What does anyone think about moss balls?

@penelope - Welcome. ;)

It's not bad for your turtle, it's just not going to do much to help your algae.

^^ I see. Well it certainly can't hurt to give it a shot. If it gets worse, I pitch out the salt and just not bother with it again. :) With any luck, all the combined things put together takes care of it. I appreciate your help. :)

salt can rid your tank of string or free floating green algae, but it opens up the door to a million other types of algae that are much harder to get rid of. Just a word of caution.

Thanks. I'm not heading to the store until tomorrow, so I'll have to mull over my choices. :)
