Equipment Review and Discussion :: how to clean out a 20 gallon tank

I purchased a 20 gallon tank for my RES last week and have been thinking about using a pump to suck up all the water so that I wouldn't have to carry out the tank and empty it every time I change out the water. Is there a particular kind of pump that is widely used and recommended in helping to change out the water in a tank? Would a trip to the home improvement store help or would a pet supplies store be better?

The python or aqueoun water change system is your best bet. It will help you empty and fill.

The python is the original if you couldn't guess from the 70's looking photos on their website and has more available accessories / options. I've had mine for probably 20+ years now.

What i use is a sump pump. It will empty the tank fast and leave about .25 of an inch of water left in the tank. Your cant beat that. Of course it will costs $55+ maybe more. You would have to search around too. Cause many designs.
