Various accessories and equipment discussed here.

There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you figure the best methods for your situation then it becomes much easier. How big is your tank? How much water is in there? How many turtles do you have? How big are they? Knowing that could help us make better recommendations.

Don't be scared to ask questions. I didn't know much about turtles a year ago but I have learned a ton on this site. Sunsun filters are cheap and good canister filters.I do not own one but there are people here that do. I understand if you can't run out and buy one now I'm just giving you an opinion for in the future .

Post Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2014 1:21 am   new filter, better pump

Hello,

It's been awhile & I need help. My magnum 350 runs, but the water is not pumping properly. I replaced the disconnect double valves because it seemed like a pressure issue. Cleaned it up, got it running. I went away for a couple days & when I returned, the motor was running, no water was going in or coming out. At first it was only the outtake which I thought I'd fixed with the new valves. Apparently not. So I'm going to take it apart & have a look but I was checking out other filters.
Anyone have this problem with a 350 & what other filters are strong enough to keep Jack's home clean & not punk out after less than a year?

Next issue. I live in an apartment & use a garden hose with a bulb pump type of apparatus to drain my tank. It's aggravating & time consuming, messy also. I want to purchase an electric pump or something easier & less damp. My carpet would be happier. Any suggestion? Thanks.

It sounds like it's not priming. Check all the connections.

I use a small electric pump, a Marineland MaxiJet 600 hooked to some clear tubing to drain the tank.

As far as a pump to drain your water from your tank goes Steve hit it on the head. I use a maxi jet " cheap on Amazon" to do weekly water changes on my 300 gallon tank. Mine is the 1200 model.1300 gph

I changed the hoses & got it working again. I shut it off today for an hour to clean out Jack's water, put it on & nothing. What can go wrong in an hour? Agh! I will check out the Sunsun filters. Thanks for the maxi jet tip. On a nicer note: My vet almost did a dance in the office when he saw Jack on his annual. He was 199 grams with a nasty shell fungus last year when he was dumped on me, Miss Clueless. He is now 691 grams & doing great. I know the vet thought he'd never see him again. Honestly, I didn't think I would have him, but these guys have a way of grabbing you. He did just that. Thanks for the help & for listening, guys.

Have you looked at the magnet on the impeller? Mine was broken on my filstar and did the same thing. And your welcome. We all like turtles as well :-)

Great to hear he's doing better! How did the fungus treatment go?

Fungus treatment went well. He sat on my lap & let me do the treatment. I guess he knew he got to run around the place afterwards, so he behaved. It was during this time when he came walking towards me that his gait changed. He seemed to buff up like a macho man the closer he got to me. He stopped & looked at me as if to say "Hey!". Funny Jacko.

You asked what can go wrong in an hour? Well impellers as I found out the hard way. Just trying to be helpful. Glad to hear about your turtle :-)

If you don't mind the question, what did you use for treatment? Fungus is a persistent problem, I like to be aware of different options.
