Equipment Review and Discussion :: Opinions on Reptisun 10.0?

I recently bought one from BigAls after using the Reptisun 5.0 for about 2 months (still running but on a different setup). When I first received it, it didn't turn on at all. I tried for hours but it wouldn't light up. I tested the standard fluorescent All-Glass bulb that came with the Deluxe Hood and it worked fine. I called BigAls in regards of a RMA. They said it will take about 3-5 days since it was around the holiday season (Advance Replacement Method). I had to take away Survivor's (my 12+ years old male RES) basking time because of this. He had the UV rays but the UVB wasn't there. I had three baby RES (at that time since one recently passed away ) and I felt that swapping my turtles would have been too stressful for all of them. Finally after two days, I couldn't stand waiting any longer. I decided to give the non-working Reptisun 10 another shot. To my surprise, it decided to work. The next day, the replacement came and I had to ship that back out to BigAls. I'm still wondering if they charged me a restocking fee because of this. Just in case if anyone was wondering, I bought the fluorescent tube and not the compact version.

I have an 18-inch Reptisun 10.0 UVB tube sitting in a box that I ordered from big als. I haven't had time to set it up. Now I'm wondering what to expect when I do...

I think you might have misinterpreted my post. I have two setups. The 5.0 version is being used for a 29G setup while the 10.0 version is for the 55G. I can't alternate since the length for both tubes are different. Since I upgraded Survivor to a 55G, I needed to get a new UVB light. The Reptisun 5 from Petsmart, which I previously bought from for the 29G setup is actually more expensive than the Reptisun 10 from BigAls. So I chose the Reptisun 10 instead. The Reptisun 5 is working in perfect condition without any problems. The problem came from the Reptisun 10 but it seems to be working fine now.

i use a 24" reptisun 8.0.....it says replace in 6-8 months, i'm pretty sure that thats if it is left on 24/7, since i only leave it on for 12 hours, i presume i should replace it in 12, but i'll do it in 8, since i am hoping to get a job during the summer, man, being 13 sucks, but my summer vacations starts 20 days after my b-day, so i'll be of legal working age :D, wish me luck that the nursery wants me, once i'm 16, i'll babbly my mouth about turtles over at petsmart, they're sure to hire me then!!!

Well, I wish you a happy birthday when that time is here but I must say one thing, being 13 doesn't suck. As you grow older, and I'm only about to hit 20, it's a lot easier when you're a kid. I'll give anything just to be back at that age again.
