Equipment Review and Discussion :: Got Xp3. Are these noises normal?

Various accessories and equipment discussed here.

I can actually hear the water going up into the plastic intake tubes. The design of these things make it look like you would press until the two pieces touch "flush" but i ended up cracking one. So now they're just snug. My concern is that maybe they're not tight enough so there is a water noise?

Also i get air coming out of the exhaust tube every minute or so. When i look into the very beginning intake tube (the flexible one) i can see a small air gap.

Any suggestions?

It's possible the filter isn't fully primed. How much water is in the tank (percentage wise)?

How far is the intake tube below the water surface? It definitely sounds like air is making it's way in there.

I have that problem if there is even a little kink in my tubing. I would check to be sure nothing is getting bent or pinched.

definetly no kinks. are you guys refering to the air problem or the intake sound problem? the intake pipe is actually less than an inch above the bottom of the tank. if i left out one more, the bottom piece would not be submerged....

Have you tried raising your water level?

I have read that as well, but it isn't true. They are an aquatic species, and even the babies do quite well in deep water. I myself, would take out the extra piece of the XP3 intake, and fill 'er up. The usual concensus is that it is best to fill up the aquarium as much as you can wthou tthe turtle being able to escape. (There's another thing that isn't widely known, RES are shockingly good climbers!)

If you're still getting those noises coming out of the outlet tube, did you try what the instructions suggest under "Trouble Shooting" (I think that's the section)? Turn off the filter for two minutes and follow what it says to do. You can also try tilting the canister from one side to the other several times to help the air work out of the system.

Some of my plastic tubes cracked over time and if the place where they connect is above water level, you will get air in the system. Raise the water level as was suggested. If there are still any cracks above water level, cover them, either with tape or aquarium silicone.
