Equipment Review and Discussion :: Turtle Dock Question

Hello. The Zoo Med Turtle Dock I just purchased doesn't have a pronounced end that lowers in the water. The box shows a slanted end with about 2-3 inches under water making it a real underwater ramp. My dock's end is only about 1 inch under water and in my opinion not a true swimup ramp. They are babies and it looks like they have to do chin ups to get on. Is it defective or should I not worry about it since Laverne & Shirley got on it (at least once that I saw). Thanks for your advice.

Nah that sounds about right. They don't extend very far down. I used them for a long time though and my turtle never had a problem climing up. As long as you have seen them do it, i wouldn't worry about it.

They may be great climbers, but it doesn't mean that they should have a basking area that is hard for them to get onto.

I would go over the instructions again, and if it doesn't work, then I would exchange it.

If they're able to get up there I wouldn't worry about it. Did you get the large dock?

When they get a little bit of weight on them, the dock will tip and sink a little bit when they start to climb on and make it easier for them to get up.

Lol My turtle only uses the ramp for going down. Whenever he wants to bask he climbs from the side. It takes a lot of effort but he always hauls himself up. (Eventually)

I'm curious now as to whether or not it's actually defective. Can you take a pic?

sounds possibly defective my turtle dock's little ramp is underwater and def more than enough for a hatchling to get on with ease

I have a large and it goes down into the water almost 3".

You never stated what size you have. Did you get the issue resolved?

I have a two small ones and they both go into the water at least an inch heres a pic.

yeah, it looks fine. the turtles can get on that very easily.
but since they are baby turtles and i have heard a story of one drowning due to getting stuck inbetween the black bar that goes across on the bottom. (inbetween that bar and the tank). you could consider putting the dock on it the other way so the black bar is on teh top (above water) rather then being under the water.

So mickey does yours look like the one I posted? If not then its probably defected and you should take it back.
