HELP! Just changed Tobis tank and everything was fine and after about 2 hours I had a flood in the kitchen..... I cleaned it up and cleaned the upper area again...then plugged it back in; but within 10 minutes it was leaking FAST again...and I think I have figured out it is coming from where the plug in goes in in the motor (top)..

WHY? Any ideas guys? At this time I have unplugged and opened the top and had to move the motor out so the leaking would stop.

I totally cleaned it and have great water pressure, primed it etc... never had THIS happen before?!

Suggestions...help?

Thanks!

Is the O-ring (the black band that goes around the top of the canister) set in correctly? When you clamp down the top with the 4 latches, do they all feel exactly the same when they are clamped down (meaning does any one feel like you're forcing it to clamp)?

I'd also check for cracks... the plastic doesn't feel very sturdy, but I've never had any leaks with it.

Ok..I took it all apart again...checked the O-ring and it was ok. Also there were no cracks or chips in the plastic. I took apart the propeller part and put it back together again.....

Have had it together and running since about 5:30 today and NO LEAKS so far...... (have a tub under it in case...)

I have NO idea why it leaked before, I mean FLOODED! It has only done this once and it was because one of the clamps was ajar a little. Hope whatever was "wrong" is right now!

Thanks you guys!

Uh oh, when I was trying to take my o-ring out to clean it, it snapped, I just put it back in. I hope that's not going to make it leak...I guess I'll call Rena for a replacement. :D

Keep an eye on it! You can have a flood quicker than you think!
I would get a replacement....for the future; even if it isnt leaking now...:)

ahh, don't tell Rena that you're using their filter for your turtles!! Just say it's for your aquarium. Otherwise the customer rep idiot there will yell at you and call you names and shout obscenities and wet his pants and then refuse to send you anything and you will be blacklisted from Rena customer support for the rest of your natural born life. :o

I'd by-pass Rena entirely and just order the O-ring from www.bigalsonline.com (it's $7.99), especially if it's cheaper than Rena. Bigals is having a 10% off everything sale for orders over $50, so you could even take the opportunity to stock up a bit. :)
