Today I noticed condensation on the inside of my heater. This condensation is on the top. He is working fine, however I read some reports of people who had serious problems (broke) sometime later this condensation.
I took a researched on the internet and seen other cases. Some people on contact with Eheim received this response:

"Its normal for some condensation to Appear in the heater due to the small amount of oil used in the manufacturing process. If the heater coil does not Appear to have any corrosion, what your seeing is normal. Thanks for contacting EHEIM, let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I wonder someone has that condensation? To me that's defective product . One of the people who received this response insisted that this was not normal and received another heater.

I really like this heater, but now I do not know if I insist heater and caught another equal or ask the money back. I sent a message today to the Eheim sincerely hope they do not come to me with the same conversation.
In the meantime I must remove the heater aquarium? I took a quick searched the stores in my town and just found heaters Chinese brand Atman. The 300 watts at half the price of Jager 250 watts. However despite being more powerful it is smaller.

While all products may have a defective unit come off the manufacturing line, the overall reliability of the Eheim Jager heaters is second to none. I'd wait and see what eheim's response is. I've never heard of Atman brand heaters. I'm not saying atman is bad or anything - I've just never heard of or seen them. Personally I would stick with the known eheim.

Eheim informed me the following:

"The condensation you see inside the heater is created by oil that is used during the assembly of the unit. If water was to enter the unit, the entire glass will be filled and the heating coil will rust. At this point the unit will stop operating."

What do you think? I'm suspicious. If this is not a defect because it does not occur with more frequency in the heaters?

If Eheim says it's OK then I'd probably take their word for it. Is your heating coil rusted?

No, but ...

- If there is no problem why some were exchanged?

- Why only a few had this condensation?

I do not care if it is oil or not. What I do not want to see my turtle injured or killed because of a device that showed something strange but the manufacturer that this all ok but with some strange characteristic were exchanged.

I took a good researched the subject. If oil is no problem. however if that condensation is a failure of the seal is lost the heater, and there is a risk of being injured turtle or fish.

Now I wonder: If by chance happen seal has an issue and get air (humidity) I will not distinguish if condensation is oil or water. Now I'll have to stay forever checking the amount of condensation. In my view this is a defect, especially since only occurs in some cases.

As my heater is new and this "characteristic" is old I think it should at least be in the manual . At least if it happens to anyone again the information is already here.

I agree that the Jager heaters are very reliable. It's the only band of heater I use... but if you want an added measure of safety, make sure your tank's electrical equipment is plugged into a GFCI outlet.

If there's a leak in the heater then the amount of substance you're seeing inside the heater would increase. If water is getting in it would continue to get in. Keep an eye on it and if the amount of substance you see remains constant then it's probably as Eheim says.... just some oil.
