i just bought a bio wheel filter and i just want to know does it really pick up and clean the tank. i mean i go the other filter fluval 1 plus something like that and it doesnt pick up anything. when the turtles eat their reptomin they tear it into piece and when their done eat it doesnt even go in the filter. i wonder is the bio wheel goood

I don't know anything about the bio wheel filter, but I can tell you that Reptomin is a very stinky food when bits are leftover in the tank, even if the filter picks it up. The water will get very smelly very fast, unfortunately.

I feed reptomin to my aquatic frog & have to give him a complete water change every 3 days because the reptomin messes/stinks up the water. He doesn't have a filter & isn't a messy eater, but it still makes his water stink like rotting fish.

I feed my adult turtle in a separate pan of water to help keep her tank water cleaner too.

The filter is meant to filter the water. Most filters won't pick up debris/poop that sits on the bottom.

Feeding in a separate container of water as was suggested will help keep the tank cleaner.

Try a different food, unless it's A) A 'diagnosis' from the vet, or B) your turt refuses to eat anything else.

Problem is, the stinkiness of the food seems to be proportionate to it's nuitritiousness. ie, stinky food is the best food. Same thing with cat food.

Feeding the turtle in a separate container is a good idea. Some tank mates that could clean up after your turtle - like ghost shrimp - would help.

Spot eats the stinky stuff (reptomin and now lately, mazuri) but his tank doesn't stink. Some stuff falls to the bottom and the water filter won't pick it up so I vacuum it every couple of weeks with a syphon.
