I just found some water lettuce this weekend at a corner nursery. It's very striking! Alas, my Sweet Girl is eating the roots i think.

If it is illegal to sell a plant in your state (as a store owner), is it illegal to buy it online and have it delivered (as a consumer)? I'm asking because apparently water hyacinth (not sure what else) is invasive and illegal in Texas.

Technically it is illegal, I think. I've been on some sites that specifically say they won't ship hyacinth to my state because it's illegal here. Although, I'm sure that some vendors might bend the rules.

Whoa, attack of the water hyacinth! I wonder when the movie will be out? :?

A potential problem with freshwater plants and certain types of algae is the possibility of spores being released into the water ways in areas with inadequate waste water treatment (when you do a water change on our tank). I'm not sure if plants can cause that problem as much as algae can though. Something worth investigating if you live in one of those areas and are contemplating getting a banned plant.

A lot of the freshwater waterways are filled with Anacharis and I can't keep it stocked enough i my pond for Turtelette. I wish i could bring a big garbage bag to the park next time I'm there. That would save me some money! I wonder if they remove some every now and then so I could take the excess. How sweet would that be!

he he...imagine letting a RES run loose in there? He'd probably come out all huge and stuffed! The only thing to be careful of is where the water is coming from. If it's runoff from industrial areas or city drainage or anything like that, it could contain toxins (including pesticides) that plants like anacharis could store in their cells.

you know. It's a good thing you think of these things because I didn't. I won't get any from them then because I'm sure there are toxins in there from some place whether known or unkown. It's not worth the risk. Thanks!
