What is the green thing on the dock?

I'm not sure why your water is green, but I know it isn't your wall. Clean out your filter and see if that helps. BTW, that filter isn't strong enough for that tank size.

I have two new filters - one on each end of the tank. Fluval 4plus filters. Each filter is for use in a 57 gallon tank. Granted my tank is 120 gallon, but it's only half full of water. So do the math.

They should work out fine considering the ratio of tank water to filter requirements for turtles. Besides, we just bought them, hence they're brand new and I'm not gonna take'em back to the store unless I have a legitimate problem with these filters and so far everything is going quite well.

The water that looks so green is a combinations of things. My camera, the green walls but mostly in my opinion, this monster tank has 1/2" thick glass and probably some outside light pouring in as well. If you saw this tank inside my house it wouldn't at all look green. I think it's the wall color and the fact that the the entire tank is 1/2" thick so that does cast it's own color hue...

Our new turtle is getting along beautifully with our 'homie' turtle. I think the new one is male and our other one is female. They bask together and stay close. It's cute until we walk into the room and they immediately flee from the basking area... "splash, thump". Duh. Our older turtle is used to us so he/she doesn't freak out so fast.

Other than my 4 & 5 year old girls watching and wanting to play with them (NOT- they've been lectured) by tapping on the tank and otherwise annoying them, the turts are getting used to us and love their new home. I do help the girls feed them and watch. so "Its a good thing." as Martha would say.

Still working on the decorations. I did add large rocks and plants but - as I figured would happen, most of the plants ended up floating... so much for landscaping. Anyway, I'm tired it's almost midnight in CA. And I don't want to think about more money to spend on this project!! We're easily over $800 just with the tank and basic supplies.

I had one of those filters and they aren't that great. They clog really quickly. I had to clean mine every week and half to two weeks.

Wonderful. Ah well. Thanks for the warning. The guy at the aquarium place said using a canister filter with a tank that is only 1/2 full of water would wear it out faster and possibly burn the motor. Hmmm. I was a bit skeptical and my husband was also skeptical because he's used many canister filters in the past with his fresh and salt water aquarium fish. But with full tanks of course.

Now I knew I should have read more here about the filters everybody uses... AND asked questions. Oh well. We'll use them for now and if they become a big pain in the a**, we'll opt for the canister.

Nevertheless, thanks for the info. My old fake plants were floating all over the place so I took'em out. Tomorrow I'm going into town again and will get some new ones and anchor them well. Oh, that green thing was a piece of romaine.

There probably is more strain on a canister when both the filter and the tank are on the floor. If the tank is 1/2 full and the filter is underneath the tank, then it's not that bad.

I've used a Fluval 4+. Compared to nothing, it seem wonderful, but it quickly wore out its welcome. Even though you've got a big tank, they do take up room. When you find the water not looking as clean as you'd like and you find yourself cleaning those filters more often than you want to, consider a good canister (and take what petstore people say with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to filters).

As far as adding to the tank, I use sand and my turtle loves to dig in it. I got my sand from our local pet store it was a pit pricey, but it is made to be safe for turtles to eat being round, unlike playsand which i would have gotten at a much cheaper price.

I sometimes bury treats for her to dig for.

P.S. don't get the colored sand because all of the color is a powder mixed in and will cloud the water and ruin your pumps.
