I'm sorry, but once a turtle gets pyramiding, it's there forever. But with good diet and some real good scute shedding it might become less noticeable.

It depends on the severity and age of the turtle but even moderate pyramiding will be permanent to a certain degree.

That's ok...honestly I'm not as worried about her "looks" as her health, and as soon as she's on a better diet I know that will improve soon.

Thanks guys!

My res had slight pyramiding from being overfed for the first 6 months or so. Now, after 3 years, one has no real sign of it, the other is still not showing any real improvement.

I don't remember if you said how big your turtle is elsewhere or if you've posted pics of the shell elsewhere. It depends on the age, how long the pyramiding has been going on and how quickly it's caught.

Do you have pics?

There are some pics of her on the photo page - "newbie pics" if I'm not mistaken. She's 8.5" and while I was thinking she was a YBS, I now believe she's a peninsula cooter. I KNOW it's pyramiding, and while i's not extreme it's not slight either. She's just a chow hound, quite loveable while begging and until I found this sight I'd never really heard the term pyramiding.

Right now she's quite unhappy w/ me - I walked by her pond & didn't give her any AM pellets. :( She let me stroke her head, but only until she realized she wasn't going to be fed. Now she's sulking.

No, pyramiding is when the turtle has these little pyramid-like bumps on their scutes.

No, pyramiding is not the same as being fat, although a turtle which has pyramiding may indeed be fat.
