I hear about people useing rubbermade containers for their turts is this ok and if it is what would a 50 gal. cost and where do I get one.

I got a 46 gallon last week at walmart for $15.

I used to get them at Home Depot and Lowes. Check them carefully to make sure there's no small cracks. And they'll bow out from the weight of the water, so it's good to have the sides braced.

I use a 50+ gal. rubbermaid bin that i sunk into a small deck type setup. If i ever get around to putting pics up you can see it. Had a hard time keeping the sides from blowing out. When done i thought of using those ratcheting straps (for holding stuff down in a truck) and wrapping that around the bin.

I only use rubbermaids when I need to feed them and clean the tank out.

has anyone had issues with the rubber tanks actually break because you filled it too much with water?

i've had minor cracks but no leaks and some bowing.

I went through four 50-gallon Rubbermaid storage containers in about 9 months. If you're using the colored ones (gray, navy, etc.), look at the pattern on the bottom. The indented parts all have to be supported so that the bottom is "flat." The ones I bought inevitably developed cracks around the little raised parts (the "feet"). I found the gray ones to be somewhat stronger than the navy ones (which were pitiful--one started leaking within the month I bought it). If you can get a clear one (very rare) the general consensus is that they're stronger (plastic isn't as brittle as the colored ones). No problems yet. Other than not being able to fill the Rubbermaid to the top because of the "air vents" in the inside molded handles.

Those reptile tubs look real nice, but there's no where to contact them, that i found.
