:D Hello everybody,im a proud mom of my new baby turtz name Wicky.I never expect that im gonna have a RES.I found wicky one day when i went fishing.I just cant believe it...shes so pretty(cant tell if shes a she or he)dont know how coz she still a baby. She is 1.5 inch-RES.I had her in a small bowl for a couple of days and fed her lettuce.I went online to search bout RES coz i have no idea how to take care of her,i never had a RES pet before but im not scared becoz i know im going to get alot of help from you guys and i want to thank you in advance for having this website available to everybody regarding their RES.
Right now Wicky has a new home,a friend of mine gave me a 20 gal tank,i know its not the right size for her but its free,LOL.I bought a mini heater,a filter 10i, a piece of wood where she can hide whenever she needs privacy(its so cute),some gravels bigger than her head. The aquarium set is not complete yet,it will soon.I still need some plants and other stuff for decorations so she would feel more at home and comfortable.I still need to know alot of info about my baby.
Looking forward to exchange ideas and stories with you guys.Have a nice day

Welcome! It's nice to see new people that are interesting in properly caring for their turts!

I know you said the tank wasn't complete, but I'd like to point out a couple of things anyway. In addition to what you have, and what you plan to buy, you'll need a heat lamp and a uvb lamp, a thermometer (or 2) and a basking spot so he/she can get out of the water and dry off under the lamps.

good luck with your new little guy, and post if you have questions :-)

Welcome
There's just one thing in my mind... you got her in the wild while fishing? Was she is any harm?

If you have the time and requirements that your newly turtle needs, it's great and many hopes your turtle will live up to be a strong healthy swimmer
But if you find it hard and seem to lack in a few areas, I suggest you replace the turt back into the wild in the natural habitat.

If I had found a turtle in the wild with no need for intervention, I would go to the many malls and chinatown where hatchling are of abundance where they desperately need a person like you...

Hi and welcome. :) It would be good to finish Wicky's new home as soon as possible. We'd love to see it. What wattage is the mini-heater you have? The filter is a Whisper? What are you feeding Wicky?

I'm not sure about the wattage either. A uvb light doesn't give off heat tho, so you'll need a uva along with it. I use the TRex Active UV heat bulb and it has uva and uvb. I got mine at petsmart.com

welcome!

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Also just as a side note . . . most of us find that we change our tanks regularly too. It becomes an addiction!
