Feeding and Nutrition :: Won't eat cuttle bone

Today was the first time I bought the cuttle bone, and Toutolina won't eat it...at all! That's not a problem, right?

I wouldn't think so. My turtles don't eat their cuttlebone in the daytime. But over the night they chow it! The next morning it is usually gone.

It might take days or even weeks for your guys to figure out how good a cuttlebone is, but eventually they will come around.

Yep it can take weeks. It took almost 2 weeks before they eat it. Now it wouldn't last a day. Give her some time.

If your turtles are small, make the pieces easy to nibble on.

Umm Toutolina still refuses to eat the cuttlebone...

mine just gnaws on it over time. Are they any kind of markings on the bone that suggest that? I never see huge chunks or noticable holes on mine, but there are deffinately marks.

It took about 6 months of trying before Turtley even nibbled his. I put new in every time it got soggy and gross, but he just ignored it untill one day i came home and it was gone! Now he eats it like a champ. You could try putting a chunk of it in a veggie clip, that helps sometimes.

Toutolina really does not want to eat it. When I hand feed it to her, she takes it in her mouth then spits it out! LOL maybe over time, she'll really try it and like it.
