General Care Discussion :: Why does Tiny try mate with her tree nightly?

This is weird! Every night, after lights go out, before she settles into sleep, Tiny does "the dance" with her tree!- feet forward, stroking a branch, as if worshiping, and kicking her hind legs-all in a quite horizontal position. It's bazaar! She's not diging the rocks with hind feet or trying to get out. I think she's only a year, so probably not eggs, right????

She's probably just letting the tree know who's boss of the tank before she retires.

That's funny! I've heard of male RES courting inanimate object (my Ralph included), but never females!
I agree with Goose. She's probably just telling the tree not to try anything funny while she's sleeping

yeah my turtle courts one of the tank decorations. it's quite amusing, that's for sure. but he's a he....

Are you positive she's a she? And you're sure she's only a year old?

Females can flutter at objects (and other turtles) just as well as males can.

Tiny has short nails and the opening is pretty close to the shell.

As for her age. I guess I cannot be 100%. She was smaller than a half dollar July 4th, when i got her from a tank full of turtles in Myrtle Beach. She is now 51/2 inches. it seems like she grew so fast!

She sleeps atop and in this tree that she courts each night, and does stop if I get up to get closer, but she is doing it knowing full well that I am there 5 feet away, and continues to do it, even after she stops to see me getting closer.

It's really kinda funny I was worried that it was eggs, but no back leg digging, no lethargy. She's quite wild and eats-alot! however more drawn to cuttle bone lately, and eating the dock. She's been thumbing her nose at her regular favorites like lettuce, cukes, and radiccio.

Any other thoughts?

My adult is in LOVE with this black sheet that I have. I have it rolled up next to her tank and she is constantly laying next to it and fluttering at it. The other day I went to move it and she threw a fit smacking the water and pacing the tank so I put it back and she settled right next to it fluttering.

Sometimes, just before "lights out", if Beaker is on the resting ramp, Gomie will shoo her away with a little fluttering. Beaker always complies, and moves to the plant under the basking ramp. It seems that's Gomie's spot, she will sleep no where else in the tank.
