Hey i'm new whats up.

Question is 2 questions lol

My felmal res is in a 40 g tank, its the kind of tank where the filter is in the side so i can only get 8 inches of water. shes 7 inches long.

is this tank to small?????


I'm doin my research and i'm prob gettin a new tank sooooooon!!!! a 75 gallon. is that better???


and what kind of filter would go well with a 75 g tank?? no gravel

Im gonna say that you shold get a 120 gallon if you can afford it. She will get a little bigger. As for the filter that is my weakest area. I can't help there.

As for the filter, I would go with a large canister filter, they seem to work best. You could go with one that hangs over the back just look at how many gallons it can process over the course of an hour, the higher the rate, the better.

About the tank, it is true she will get bigger, but a 75 will be comfortable for her for now If in the future you could upgrade its a good idea, but for now I think a 75 would be fine.

I agree that a canister filter would be best.
There's many brands out there. You'll want to get something that is rated for 3-5x your tank's size (so for a 75 gal, you'll want to look for a filter that is rated for 225-375 gallons (or more, of course). You're looking at something like the Rena XP3 (or 4), Fluval 405, my personal favourite the Fluval FX5, or something equivalent.

A 75 gallon tank filled almost all the way with an above tank basking area might be all you'll need for life. Some turtles only get to 7 inches, which would make the 75 gallon sufficient. You could even stretch the 75 gallon out to a 9 inch turtle with the above tank basking area. And you'll definitely want a canister filter for that sized tank, I found mine on ebay for a good price, if you check daily, you could find one for a discount at some point.

turt-boy -- When you get a filter make sure you get one that is big enough. Turtle people have to think in terms of gph. Five time or greater than the volume will do just great. m.
