Ok, some of you may remember me talking about wanting a box turtle. A baby eastern boxie was my preference but after months of waiting, I decided I'd take whatever I could get. I walk into the pet store tonight and they said they have the boxie they were telling me about last week. Aparently some lady called, said she didn't want her 15 year old boxie any more and was bringing it in...there it was. Obvious signs of neglect. Deformed/possibly burned/very dry shell. They had it in an aquatic setup and it horrified me. I brought it home, knowing I was fully equipped and READY to take on a land turtle. Well, turns out it's the ONLY box turtle on the FACE OF THE EARTH that lives in WATER!! Didn't find that out til I brought him home and jumped on the computer. I feel like such a dope. I'm always going into that store and telling them what's what and now I'm going to look like a damn fool when I bring him back in the morning. I don't want to bring him back but I know full well that I can't house another aquatic right now and I really have no desire for another. I expected a land turtle. Just my luck...the only kind that lives in the water and he's sitting in my kitchen

So sorry. :(

I know how you feel. About four years ago I found a hatchling box turtle while we were building our house. I really wanted to keep it but wasn't ready or in the position to keep it, and knew it would be better to leave it in it's natural habitat. I think about that little turtle to this day wondering where it is and how big it would be right now.

I hope you get your boxie soon.

Malayan box turtle was what I thought of when I read it liked water. The name box turtle is really a misnomer--they're semi-aquatic, if I remember correctly.

It had the hinged plastron and the webbing between the toes was not obvious at all. It looked like regular boxie feet. That's what threw me off. I was wondering what in the world it was doing in a tank of water. I know some of you are thinking what my husband thought; that I should have taken that to mean it was aquatic. Let me clarify that the people at the pet store put it in water simply because it was a turtle, not because they knew what it needed. I kind of miss her now tho.

Their carapace may not be as colorful or patterned as the eastern boxie, but their face is amazing

yes, she was a beautiful turt. If I had the means I would have kept her anyway.
