Habitat - Indoor :: Whats best fish to get,how many,and best way to put in tank?

my turtle is only 1.5 inches and today he hate a rosy red. the whole thing went in his mouth and the fish was about 2 inches long! hahahahah. i took the fish out and put it in ice cold water for about a minute. by that time the fish may look dead but once you put it in your tank, it will swim around slowly. my friend put a rosy red in a small cup with a little bit of water and ice and placed it in the freezer for 15 minutes and it looked like the fish was dead but then we poured it in the tank and it was still alive. LOL

What's the point in freezing them?

idk, the fish was frozen and came back to life once it was back in the tank

the point was so stun the fish so that the turtle can catch it

I got 3 pretty big Rosy Reds Monday and so far one of them, the biggest died, and I tried to feed it to my turtle, but he wouldn't eat it so I had to throw it away. Glad it was only 12 cents.

when i buy rosy reds i just toss them in the tank if my turtles cant catch them right a way i figure tis good excersize for them . 10 rosy red last my turtles like 2 sometimes 3 months

I have done rosie reds and the only time I had an issue was doing a partial tank cleaning and didnt realize the water was 90* in the tank...the fish died FAST. I saw the temp drained it down and paid better attention to cooling it down to 75* for my turtle.

lol it was a 5 for 5 deal at petco for fancy guppies...

got 5 of them...

with in the first few days 4 of them were gone. that was a month and a half ago.

The last one who we nicked name slayer is still alive and uneated for some reason...

Do you have well water or reverse osmosis (RO)? I know you mentioned that you dont have chlorine in the water. You might not have to use conditioner if the water is RO. If it is well water it could be high in some minerals, but it would be hard to determine without analysis. And even then water conditioner might not do anything if you have no chlorine in the water. Take a sample of your water (straight from the tank) to the petstore next time you go. They should test it for free. Then you can determine if you have a water problem and what chems you need to buy. Dont spend $ on something you dont need.

That said - something is going on - you shouldnt really loose that many fish so soon. I am not worried about the fish really. But if there is something in the water that is killing them - it could be harmful to the turtle.

But then again the water temp is 76'-80' and I know that's to high for those kind of fish. I don't know if I have RO but my well sucks water from a underground spring. Our water is very hard, the reason I know this is because the hardness made it hard to find the chemicals we need.

hmmm...my tanks water is 78 F and I have had some of the same rosies living in the tank for months. I don't think it is your water temp.

I usually feed feeder guppies because rosey reds are not readily available. I have never had issues with just dropping them straight in, they get a bit dazed and squirt gets a couple right off the bat.

They also seem to live very well in there, even when water temperatures fluctuate a few degrees.

So I'd say to maybe try feeder guppies rather than rosey reds.

Feeder guppies aren't the same as fancy guppies. Fancy guppies are the pretty ones.
