General Care Discussion :: Breathing

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

When ever I take up my RES I hear her making some a noise, something like a breathing noise, is it normal, and also on some parts of her shell, If my fingers are there I can feel her breathing, also when ever I take her out of the water for even a few seconds, her mouth is open a little, and example would be like this (out of 100 it would be 2) thats how much her mouth is open.

Seeing that I am not too familiar with turtles I like to examine everything.

It could be an overweight turtle. Is there skin puffing out when she goes into her shell? I'm not sure what you mean by feeling her breathing when touching the shell.

If your turtles under about 2-3 inches its shell hasn't completely hardened yet. I can feel my turtle moving through its bottom shell. Like its bones or something.
