Same thing happened to me. Mine came in on the plants.. but didn't last long. Heck they don't even last in with the fish but then I have some rather agressive fish I'd not worry about the snails over running your tank.

Yes, the painteds can be little pigs! Much less picky than my RES.

When I keep snails in a separate tank, they multiply like crazy. Not like the ones that get put in with the turtles.
