Feeding and Nutrition :: guppie breeding questions

ive been thinking about breeding feeder guppies for Shelly, and i have a few questions that i couldnt find in the "breed your own feeder guppies" topic.

what sort of hiding places do they need?
how do you tell if a guppie is male or female?
when can the fry be put in the turtle tank?
should you put all fry in the tank, or leave some to breed?

There's a fake plant that looks like grass that's about 3'' tall. That's great for fry. You can also get some fake plants that float. That will give lots of hiding places.

Generally, males are smaller and more colorful, females are bigger and are pretty dully colored. All the females I've had have silver bodies and black tails, except for one which had neon green spots on her tail.

You can put them in at any point, but I would wait until they're decent sized. This will provide more nutrients for the turtle. If you add babies, you'll have to add a bunch.

It depends on how many guppies you want to keep. If you want to have quite a few on hand, then only add 1-2 every few weeks. If you don't want to keep that many, then remove the hiding places and the adults will eat them.

Oh i didnt see you already asked questions.. They just need alot of plants like unt said, but its best to take the fry out and put them in their own tank, or theyll be eaten by the fish.

You can tell male or female by their fins. Females have a large triangle shaped fin on their underside while males have a longer, wispy fin.
Most pet stores have them separated.
You want to keep a population of about 3-4 females per male so the males don't drive one female crazy.
The fry will need a lot of hiding spots otherwise the adults will eat them.
Good hiding spots include large decorations, plants, etc. You can also buy breeding tanks, which are small "cages" to put on the side of your tank to keep small fry safe from adults.
You can add them to a turtle tank immediately, but the same rule applies: if they don't have hiding spots they'll be easy to pick off.
