i would say yes you can put them in your tank, yes they will be eaten and yes your trurtle should be ok unless they are really fatty or desiesed. try to find out as much info as possible about the glofish first.

hhmmm i wonder if the turtles poo would change colour lol lmao

do you know how they make them glow or is it a natural thing

i bet they would get eaten faster than other fish with colours like that.... very attractive

ok i found this out... they were bread by scientists to be used as a polution checker in waterways and relate closely to zebra fish.they have been bread for quite some time now and have now beome self sufficient so when they breed the fish naturally have the glow.

i suppose due to them now being self sufficient and bread to be put into natural wild waterways then they should be fine for your tank. if the turtle eats them which it will i cant see any harm being done as if they were bread for a sole purpose of being a polution detecter then they would have to be environmently friendly if you get my drift. so if they werent safe for any animal to eat then they could not have been used in water ways.

i have however contacted the main supplier to find out.

http://www.glofish.com/

see that site for all your glofish needs and info the sciene section is quite good for info on the species

yup safe for your turtle, straight from the glofish faq

What if a GloFish® fluorescent zebrafish is eaten in the wild by another animal?
For an animal in the wild, eating a fluorescent zebrafish is the same as eating any other zebrafish. Their fluorescence is derived from a gene that is already found in nature and is completely safe for the environment. Just as eating a blue fish would not turn a predator blue, eating a fluorescent fish will not make a predator fluoresce.

Huh? I had thought they were dyed. Not a big fan of those who dye fish or breed those poor goldfish to be mutants... but at least these were made for a socially edifying purpose rather than simple marketability.

You are probably thinking, as I was, about the tetras that you frequently see in pet stores that have been dyed with the colour of a local sports team, or something similar....

These fish, btw, currently do not provide any scientific benefits, for finding pollution or otherwise.
They are simply being marketed/sold for their 'pretty' colours.
They do look really cool in the photos though :-).

Although Zebra Danios are typically inexpensive, I suspect that these would not be so cheap and thus not sure that you would want to use them as feeder fish.

You are right, they are like 6 bucks I am not going to feed my turtle a meal that is more costly than what I eat.

I might try these fish, my turt refuses to eat any fish except goldfish (which he only got one ever on accident) so it would be nice to get something to eat his mess that would look nice. Just as long as they come in other colours except orange, he has an obsession with eating orange things. Our new snails, our other snail died of old age, just bury themselves in the sand all day.

Yeah, I also read somewhere that scientist do actually have the technology to create a dinosouar using dna from their bones but just haven't tried or figured out the exact way to create an imbrio, or however you spell it, succesfully.

I think for a scientist to mix species, create things that shouldn't be brought back, or fusing human embrios with rats, cows or any other animal for that matter. You can look this up and there are articles about scientists doing this all of the time! :(

They even sometimes force an embrio and use it's dna to fix, say a problem with the first child and have no regard for it. Just like abortion, WHICH IS WRONG!!!!!!!

I mean something could have gone horribly wrong wiht making glofish, like somehow it goes wrong and create something like tha monster off of Alein vs. Predator! Tis just really makes me mad as you can tell!

I don't think there would be anything wrong with feeding glowfish, but I would personally advise against it. I've bought several of them (at different times) for my aquarium and they all died within a week. So, I would be concerned about your turtle catching something nasty from the glowfish. Do not buy them from Wal*Mart!

im all for genetic engineering, its already been preformed on almost all of our produce and livestock, and has saved thousands of lives by creating hearty and sustainable food sources in our country and abroad

i wouldnt make political statements like ABORTION IS WRONG along with genetic research and justify it with what you learn from movies, species mix all the time in nature, nothing is coming "back" cause everything is dying out because of human interference

do some actual research and you'll learn that gene manipulation does not = embryo destruction, in fact no human embryos are used in legitimate genetic hybrid research, animal eggs are used as a template with human cells introduced to create cloned animal stem cells that give more insight into human mutations which give us disease and disorders

chances are when you are old and sick, or already know someone who is sick, the medication created and methods used are the product of this kind of research

its disheartening that the US education system is failing in mathematics and science compared to the rest of the world, when its these things that advance human civilization

better lock the thread before i really get heated

Well, for your information there are articles and videos about them being able to create a kind of dinosouar, and they have used human embrios to help humans, don't get me wring i'm glad that they are trying to help people, but using embrios and then destroying them is wrong! I mean that is a child right there that they are killing.

Okay, so glofish? I don't think there would be any harm in feeding them to your turtle as long as they survive the quarantine process. But I really don't see the need for them as a food source. Rosies are super cheap. If you want them as decoration and want to make sure they're safe in case the turtle ingests them, then just quarantine the little guys for at least a couple weeks before adding them to your tank.
