Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hi, A month ago I had very sick turtles. This was my 1st experience with res and I got them in late Aug. so I am pretty new at this. When I finally got them to take food, I didn't care what they ate. We did bloodworms & brine shrimp. That was all they would eat. Once they became stronger I got them on a quality pellet and that is what I'm feeding them now. I feed them 2x a day, 3 pellets each. They're doing very well but they are FAT. Am I overfeeding them? I would like to intro some vegs. Any suggestions?I also have feeder guppies in their tank.
I know I did a bad thing with all that protein but I was truly desperate. I don't think pyramiding will be an issue. Does anyone have a pic of what pyramiding looks like?

Okay, first off, if you've only had the turtles for 2 months now, I doubt they are "fat". Turtles do naturally have a lot of skin that hangs out of their shells. A few pictures would help out for us to tell you if they are indeed fat. But 2 months of poor feeding shouldn't hurt them terribly.

What size are the turtles? 2x a day, 3 pellets each isn't a lot of information without knowing their size. A 6 inch turtle, that's probably starving them, a 2 inch, might be too much food.

Veggies, try all of the usual veggies: dark greens like romaine, green leaf, or dandelion lettuces; blueberries, strawberries, peeled grapes, mangoes, apples; carrots or sweet potatoes.

Lastly, you know what the pyramids of Egypt look like? Imagine each scute starting to form a little one of those, with the center being raised up. Google pyramiding, you'll see a lot of examples esp. in tortoises.

I feed my 2 inch turtle 5 pellets.
1.0.0 RES-Slash
1.2.0 Cat-Abby/Cali/Nemo
0.1.0 Yorkie-Lucie
1.0.0 Jack Russell Terrier-Cooper
I have lots of ideas! Trouble is, most of them suck!

I googled pyramiding.Wow, that is not what I had in mind. My fat turtles shell is growing tall, that's the way to describe it. That's why I'm here. I might be uninformed now but I won't stay that way.
My 2 are not 2 inches yet. Tonka is about the size of a quarter. I will send some pics that show their size. I'm going by the size of their head rule... 3 pellets each - 2x a day.
I bought frozen veg cubes ( spirulina ) and they are so not into that. Are there any vegs that can cause harm? Thanks guys cindy
