Since your babies are still little, I would add some taller plants so they have something to rest/climb on while swimming. I would also add some more hides, they should help reduce the possibility of aggression.

Thanks everyone....There was no biting but I was worried about that too....

All the decor and plants are carried over from the 10gallon so they are all too short but I'm working on that

I found some nice tall plants at petsmart. One goes all the way up in a 55g, the other, about 4" from the top.

they are only like $4-7.

I got my plants from petsmart as well. They have plants of all different heights. Just get the one that suits your tank.

You can get hides at pet stores too, but you can also use things like ceramic plant holders and things.

To add to the plants, you can also get floating plants. My turtles still like to hang out on the even though they're plenty big enough to swim their tanks without tiring. At your turtles sizes, some plant pots would probably be a cheap hide-out. I'd imagine a lot of places have them on sale now since summer is over.

My turtles have been hiding since going into the new tank..trying to go under the sand and plants...I hope this is normal with a new setup

That happens with a new tank. I think their survival instincts kick in and they hide because they don't know what might be in there ready to eat them. Just give them time. Mine did the same thing.

I had a huge sense of accomplishment when it was all done and my turts were in there even though they weren't yet enjoying it. I think I probably logged over a whole day in total time setting it up, trips to the store and everything else it took to get them setup.
