General Care Discussion :: non slip basking surface?

Hi, all. I know I read a post on here a while ago about where to buy new non-slip surface to paste onto the basking dock. My big girl has been having trouble getting up now that the surface is a bit worn down.

I can't for the LIFE of me find that post. Does anyone know where I can buy some? I don't want to go to a hardware store and get just any, because it could be harmful. Ideas? Thoughts? Thanks!

i know they have terrarium liners at pet stores that are like a carpet if thats what your thinking. other than that im not too sure.

You can buy cupboard non-slip stuff at even dollar stores sometimes. I'm not sure if that's what you're thinking of. As far as I know, it's safe (I've used it briefly in my tank, but it wore off quickly), but I would give it a good rinse (then let it dry) before you paste it on to your dock

Hmm. I guess maybe I'm not sure what I mean. I *thought* I could kinda just buy the same green grit that the acrylic ramp came with.

But hey now that I've seen the genius of the milk crates on here.. who knew? I really MUST get on here more often!

Also I noticed a post in which it was said that turtles love cilantro. Put a whole bunch in the tank. It has been bitten, spit out and is now in pieces all over. *sigh*

I was gonna get those kitchen drawer liners for my new basking dock.. Would that work?

I wouldn't get the liners that look like little rubber bubbles attached to each other. I'd imagine turtles could eat part of that. The flat but textured ones might be a good idea, as long as it's securely attached so parts can't be bitten off.

Meg is right, get the flatter kind You can find it at hardware stores, that's where i got mine.

Hmm... I'll look for it. Another thought I had was covering the dock with a thin layer of silicone glue, and dipping it in sand. Do you think that would do the trick?

can u show me a picture of the flat liner and the bubbles ones? I just wanna make sure i get the right one.

The good kind looks more like this:

Now, they can come in all colors, so don't go by that. You need to go by thickness. The good stuff looks more like netting instead thick rubber pieces, which is the bad stuff.

i used the stuff that you put under a rug to prevent it from sliding on a hardwood or tiled floor. its rubbery and you can cut it then just glue it onto your basking spot. the turtles basically stick to it and dont slide off it at all. it works really good.

Well,the only thing I can think of is tank liner,that goes on the bottom of your tank.I guess it could be put on the dock.
