Feeding and Nutrition :: What plant is this?? My turt LOVES it!

Hi, can't really ask the guy in the aquatic shop who recommended it for my RES as my Chinese is not so good.




Anyway he recommended it for turtles and my RES just goes at it like a locust in a maize field However.... I found around 4 or 5 mushy pellets on her basking platform and am wondering if she regurgitated it? Perhaps it is not suitable, perhaps she just made a pig of herself??

I hope some knowledgeable person can identify it and perhaps advise on suitability too.

Yes is does doesn't it? Do cheese plants grow under water though?

Here's a link with a lot of examples of aquarium plants. To me, your plant looks like one of the Anubias's. You can see examples in the Anubias link and also in the potted plants link.

Yep that looks like the baby. Think this looks like Anubias Barteri var Barteri.

Will have to see if I can find out if this is suitable for turtles but I guess it must be ok or she would not eat it? Anyway does not seem to have done her any harm at present and at the rate she is going at them I don't think they will last very long!

It should be okay, your turtle would eat it in the wild if he found it so it should be alright.

Well all seems fine still. Like Screw Zoo said if it found it in the wild it would eat it... and it has 'found' it and is eating it, but must admit she does not seem to be paying it the same attention as she initially did. So she is either bored of it already or perhaps it was not as delicious as she at first thought, or even it really did make her vomit so she has gone off it a bit?

Thats good, so that it doesn't just tear it up in one day, it'll still take nips at it when its hungry. I wish my turtles wouldn't just kill any live plants and i might give them some to nip on occasionally.

i found that my turtle loves grass reed. when i initially set up the big tank i put several clumps of it in there and he ate the lot in 5 days. i have mae an agreement with the guy who sells i and i now get it half price as i am going to need it rather regular. i was quite pleased when he begun eaingit as he never bothered with greens till then.
