Feeding and Nutrition :: veggies

Goblin wont eat his veggies, I tried soaking them in tuna juice but hes being very stubborn. I even tried cuting the carrot about the size of his pellets didn't work though. He will only eat his pellets and lettuce. How do I get him to eat other veggies?

If I'm reading your signature correctly, Goblin is only two inches long. Hatchlings are primarily carnivorous and remain that way until they reach around four inches in size. If you can get them to eat any veggies at this point just consider it a bonus. You can worry about varying his diet when he's bigger. When you say lettuce, do you feed ice berg lettuce or green or red leaf lettuce?

I have the same problem with my 5" male RES. He will only eat pellets or live food. I've done the turtle jello shots (which my other turtle freakin' loves), but he scoffs at them. Maybe I should up the ratio of tuna to veggies?

It's clear that he gets too much protein, as he has pyramiding. He was like that when I adopted him, I think that their previous owner only ever fed them pellets.

Have you tried tough love? Not offering anything but veggies. They won't let themselves die of starvation. If you haven't tried it, I suggest you do, it's hard but works pretty well if you wait long enough.

I feed him red leaf lettuce or romain lettuce. We never buy iceberg lettuce cause its bad for them and we dont eat it.

You could try cilantro - it has a stronger smell than lettuce, and is healthy & cheap.

And maybe put some real plants (check the website for good ones) in the tank too.

Little and big turtles love Anacharis and Duckweed. You can get batches of oit on Ebay for pretty cheap, and both plants are very good for our shelled freinds.

You can try basil as well as sweet potato. Both of those are more flavorful and the turtles love them.
